WOMEN OF THE EPISCOPAL
CHURCH OF THE HOLY FAMILY
CHAPEL HILL, NORTH CAROLINA

...To so plan and emphasize the corporate
life of the Churchwomen of your branch that
all they do in worship, education and action
may be an expression of Christian fellowship
and a special way to consecrate all our gifts
and all our work in the service of our Lord.

. e .To so fully understand the Program of
the whole Church in the world, nation, dio-
cese and parish that participation and
stewardship may be intelligent, wholehearted
and sacrificial.

...To be aware that changing patterns of
organization bring new emphasis of responsi-
bility for chapter officers so the planning
for participation in all fields of service
will include a larger number of women.

PRAYERS FOR EPISCOPAL CHURCHWOMEN

Almighty God, our heavenly Father, bless we
pray Thee, our work for the extension of Thy
Kingdom, and make us so thankful for the pre-
cious gift to us of Thy beloved Son, that we
may pray fervently, labor diligently, and
give liberally to make Him known to all
nations as their Saviour and their King:
through the same Jesus Christ our Lord,

Amen.

Almighty God, whose love reacheth unto the
world's end, and who didst send Thy blessed
Son to redeem all mankind: Help us, we
pray Thee, so to reveal Thy love in prayer
and work and stewardship, that by Thy spirit
all nations and peoples may be baptized into
one body, even as all are redeemed by one
Saviour; through Jesus Christ Our Lord.

Amen.

FOREWORD

"The Women of the Church." What a
truly great and wonderful title you bear.
In these simple words each of you is placed
in a great and powerful company. You are
united in a real way with Mary, who sat at
our Lord's feet to learn from him, and with
Martha, who cooked his supper. You share
the heritage of queens and of chambermaids.
Women who loved our Lord stood at the foot
of the Cross. Women went on Easter Sunday
to prepare a dead body for its final rest,
and they met the Risen Lord.

Women of the past have witnessed to
our Lord in many ways. More than one died
for her faith in years gone by. Last year
one went to serve in South America the very
savages who had killed her husband. Another
less dramatically said the right word that
brought healing to two persons who hated one
another.

Each of you will in your own unique way
be a witness to Him this coming year. You
will witness to those who may work with you.
You will witness to your husband and to your
children. You will witness to neighbors and
to your children's playmates. This is part
of what it means to be a woman of the Church,

Your job is not an easy one. In the
midst of the countless demands upon you, it
is not within your power to be the loving,
forgiving, out-going witness that you should

like to be all the time. It is not within
your power to be the wife that you would
like to be. It is not within your power to
be the parent you would like to be. But it
is. in your power to offer what you do have
to God, without excuses or disguises.

This is truly the source of power for
those great persons who are and have been
women of the Church. For if you give God
your imperfect womanliness, your imperfect
love, your imperfect patience — then He
can reach into your lives and the lives of
those around us and fill them up brimful.

I give thanks for the women of the
Church. And I give thanks that you are one
of them.

Loren B. Mead, Rector

The work of the Auxiliary is more effective if
every one understands the workings of its com-
ponents. The following list presents the pur-
poses of its basic committees:

Christian Education - to plan for each meeting
a program on some aspect of the work of the
Church that education may produce constructive
action.

Christian Social Relations - to extend the
helping hand of the Church in cooperation with
other denominations, agencies, and peoples
toward a common goal of World Citizenship in
a World Democracy.

Church Periodical Club - to constantly renew
and enrich our knowledge of a national and
international scope by providing Current
Resource Material, and to distribute material
to other groups as well.

Missions - to create in an open field for look-
ing, an awareness, and to encourage our prayers
and consideration and to learn through corres-
pondence needs that we may help fill.

Supply - to aid the National Council by sending
boxes of clothing and other supplies to our
home and foreign Missions and other needy groups

United Thank Offering - to express our thankful-
ness by tokens which ultimately augment the
good work of women in our Mission fields.

Our other committees are for our own operation,
that we may befriend strangers and children,
enjoy Christian fellowship among ourselves,
and function on a level of benefit to others.
